This rug weaving workshop is structured similar to the interior designer/weaver relationship where the student, with my guidance, becomes both designer and weaver.  The student contributes design and color input during consultations before the class, comes to class and becomes the weaver. I do all fabric and loom prep work ahead of time then coach and teach the students during weaving and finishing.

Students are asked to provide me width all the color and design references I require when designing a custom rug.  I make a fabric swatch board based on this information and send it to students prior to  class for their approval.  I set up each loom for each student with warp colors that complement their design board and I prepare the fabric ahead of time.  The student arrives and immediately begins weaving.  It is really fun and gratifying to see how the color information on their fabric swatch boards is transformed into their very own custom rug.

This class includes tapestry techniques for several geometric shapes. A small rug 24” x 36” may be woven with a border and a geometric shape in the center.  It is so wonderful to see how the colors and geometric designs possible with tapestry  combine to form a unique custom rug.   Finishing techniques are included

Simple, portable wooden frames are the loom we use in this class to learn basic tapestry stitches with the focus being on freeform rounded shapes. Fabric like I use in my rugs is the material and the color possibilities are endless. Looms are warped ahead of time and students may weave 2 small samplers or 1 larger one.
